ABOUT LEAMAN GEOPHYSICS
The operation was founded by Dr David Leaman on July 1, 1981 as an exploration geophysics business based on specialties of gravity and magnetic methods and interpretations for coal-mineral-petroleum-catchment projects; seismic interpretation for basin and economic basement structural analysis; electrical methods for groundwater and engineering studies.
The Principal’s wide background and experience meant that the operation could have been called “Leaman Geohydrology” but the geophysics arm which had been developed from an accessory role was considered more viable commercially at the time of leaving Government service as Tasmanian Government Geophysicist (having previously been appointed in 1966 as Groundwater and Engineering Geologist).
Over the years emphasis has transferred to gravity-magnetic survey-specification-correction-analysis of various geological structures, ore deposits, foundation studies with a research development of catchment analysis methodology (begun in 1966).
Leaman Geophysics has published several books dealing with Tasmanian geology and hydrology (see other pages on this site) and continues to operate a geophysical interpretation arm and a hydrological research project.
